80 Miles!!

Wow! I have done it! Yesterday morning marked the last 7 miles to the 80 mile mark. I am glad to be done...and am very happy for all your support.
A quick shout out to the latest contributers, Sherry at $50, Barbara at $50 and Frederica at $25. Thank you!!
Everyone has been awesome with their words of encouragement and their monies pledged.
So, just a quick note about this weekend's walks. They have all been done along the Sellwood Trail because it is such a great place to walk as I've been saying. The cottonwoods, or the smell of the cottonwoods take me back to my childhood. It is a sweet smell, but I do not know what to compare it to. The leaves of the tree are bright green and lovely. The fluffy yellow goslings of the Canadian geese have been busily following the parentals about eating voraciously the green grass that is so abundant. Ahhh, it is a great time of year.
Alex to you a great big hello! I hope the monies raised help take some steps toward helping you and those who have been stricken by Neuroacanthocytosis!
Be well!
Chris

April is Almost Over

Hello! I have been horribly remiss in adding notes through the month. It shall quickly be over, although, I do have a weekend of walking ahead of me. Being a slug is a good thing if you're a slug, however, if you're committed to walking 80 miles, it doesn't help. Another 4 miles logged this evening.
The Sellwood Trail is such a great place to walk especially this time of year with the wild life, herons, Canadian geese, hummingbirds and an unidentified bird perched in a tree. He reminded me of an owl in the way he moved his head and he appeared to have tufts of feathers at his head and a big white front, alas, I could not see him well enough. The day was warmish with nearly clear skies. Frankly, we haven't had many of those this spring. So, back to Canandian geese. There is a goosprey (as I heard a father telling his daughter tonight)along the trail. It seems the craziest thing, but a pair of Canadian geese have taken over an osprey nest this spring to hatch their young. A dangerous game I would think as the nest is on a pole 25 feet or so off the ground.
So, the 4 miles tonight puts me at 58.75 miles for the month. Again, I have a weekend of walking in front of me.
A great big thanks for the latest pledgers (it's not too late!!). Wendy donated $25 and Georg and Patricia $100. Thank you!
Blessings to all!
Chris

New Pledges and more miles!

A bit wet this morning! My walk may be a bit soggy!
A great BIG thanks to Arleen and Bob for a $400 pledge and to Bob J for the $25 contribution! All your dollars and support are appreciated!
I enjoyed a 7 miler with my walking partners on Saturday morning! The laughs, the stories, the sightings make for a fast passing of time.
We found ourselves along the Sellwood Trail with many runners and bikers. The cottonwood trees are fragrant and a light, bright green. The smell always takes me back to my parents place and childhood.
I wish you well!

Underway!

I'm on the board with 4 miles! The sun finally returned to us in Portland yesterday and the day was glorious!! Tuesdays are on my schedule for the gym in the evening with cycle class, but I was itching to get outside. The Sellwood Trail offered a great opportunity to enjoy nature and soak up the rays. The geese and ducks are nesting right now and are paired and happily doing their thing. I am a bit puzzled by the Canandian geese pair who have taken over an osprey nest this year high on a pole. Recently, I noticed this taking place and just didn't believe it! A perching hummingbird was noted too.
Speaking of hummingbirds, lots of hummingbirds this winter. Perhaps because I do walk more now than I have previously, throughout the winter I have noted hummingbirds flitting about, usually sounding a bit agitated and "squeaking" like they do. A bold hummingbird on Monday morning was pestering a crow. Fascinating!
Be well!
